Korean Red Pine

SCROLL

In Korea, where more than 70% of the country is mountainous, pine trees are the most widely found tree species in these areas. The pine tree, which is a symbol of standing tall and a strong will, is a familiar and important plant resource to the Korean people, so much so that it is mentioned in the national anthem.

PINOGEN took notice of pine trees, a natural resource that contains the wisdom and culture of Korean ancestors. Among more than 200 species of pine trees in the world, “Red Pine” is tree that holds deep meaning to the Korean people, and grows wild within the beautiful lands and scenery of Korea.

There is a saying amongst the Korean people, stating, "Our people are born with a golden string tied to pine branches, and die lying in a pine coffin." This shows how deeply established and how precious pine trees are to Korean people and their ancestors. As they are hard and do not rot easily, pine trees were used to build palaces of old. Numerous artists sang of their unwavering spirit, taking root and prospering even in the crevices of rocks where there was no soil. When there was nothing to eat, people filled their hungry stomachs with pine tree bark.

More than anything else, pine trees were regarded as a medicine for longevity or food to Korean ancestors. Medicinal books such as “Bencao Gangmu”, “Dongui Bogam”, and “Hyang'yak Jipseongbang”, all mention that “if you reproduce pine needles for a long time, you will not grow old, your energy will increase, your hair will turn black, and you will not know cold and hunger.” Pine trees were used to treat various diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, arteriosclerosis, and hair loss. As such, pine trees are an excellent raw material that has been continuously used during Korea‘s long history. PINOGEN wants to continue the pine trees’ long tradition and develop them further for the modern day.
